Wairarapa’s Marcus Daniell will play off for a medal at the Tokyo Olympics after he and Michael Venus stunned the Colombian third seeds in the men’s double quarterfinals.
Daniell and Venus won a tense encounter over Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farrah 10-7 in a super tiebreaker.
The Kiwi pair comfortably took the first set 6-3 in 33 minutes, only for Cabal and Farrah to fight back and win the second set by the same score.
In the super tiebreaker, the first to 10, an early break gave Daniell and Venus a 7-4 advantage, but the Colombians fought back to 7-6 before the Kiwis broke serve, leaving it for Venus to serve out the match.
