The second marlin in less than one week has been caught at Castlepoint, an extraordinary turn of events according to Wairarapa Sports Fishing Club’s resident weigh master Dave Cameron, given that the last – and only – time a marlin was recorded being landed in the area was 28 years ago, in 1996.
The catch last Sunday was made by Mike Meredith, while yesterday’s marlin was caught by fisherman Nick Loader on his father Wayne’s boat.
“Another amazing catch,” Cameron said when he contacted the Times-Age about the latest landing.
“It is very rare in New Zealand, let alone as far south as Castlepoint.”
