There was more frustration for the Giants club on Saturday with one of their teams not playing because of a default by their opposition.

The club’s Intercity Premier Three team were scheduled to play Hutt Valley Dodgers Black at South Park on Saturday, only for their opponents to default at 10pm on Friday.

Giants are the only unbeaten team in the championship but have played just the three games and haven’t taken to the diamond since their away win over Kapiti on November 6.

One of those was a postponed game because of wet weather in Wellington, and there was deferred game after two people in Wairarapa had tested positive for covid-19.

However, it means Giants won’t have played for four weeks when they finally see action, hopefully against Dodgers White on Saturday.

The default continues a long history of opposition teams pulling out of their games with Giants, especially in fixtures scheduled for South Park.

Giants president Chris Feary is frustrated with the number of defaults by visiting teams.

The team most impacted has been the Giants presidents grade side, who have already this season had one of their games defaulted by serial offenders Hutt City United.

Giants president Chris Feary said he has never played United at South Park because they always defaulted when having to travel over the Remutaka Hill.

“It’s extremely frustrating for the [Premier Three] guys because they’re top of the table but have only played three games.

“And for the Prezzies, this was only our second game. We’re coming into December, and the first games were at the end of October,” said Feary.

“It’s a really disappointing start, and we’ll be lumped with doubleheaders because I’m sure they’ll make sure we have to play all our games.”

The Presidents did get on the diamond and came away with a comfortable 14-8 victory over Stokes Valley, while the Giants women were also victorious, beating the Stokes Valley Breeze 8-5.
