Serious crash in Pirinoa

A man is in critical condition at Wellington Hospital
after his motorbike collided with a ute near Pirinoa Hall on Saturday afternoon.

A police spokesperson said officers attended the serious crash on Lake Ferry Rd at 1.25pm on Saturday, which “involved a motorbike and vehicle”.

“One person has critical injuries,” the spokesperson said.

The Serious Crash unit was in attendance at 2.30pm on Saturday, and the road was closed while police investigated, the spokesperson said.

The road re-opened at about 6.20pm on Saturday.

Martinborough chief fire officer Jake Hawkins said Martinborough First Response and Fire crews attended the crash near the hall and worked to stabilise the man’s condition until the ambulance arrived.

“He was taken via ambulance because the weather was too poor for the helicopter to land; he was taken to Wellington Hospital.”

Te Whata Ora Capital, Coast, and Hutt Valley confirmed the man was still in serious condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit as of yesterday evening.
