Three of the main contenders for Wairarapa’s electorate seat have already taken advantage of early voting for October 14’s general election, which began yesterday.
The Green Party’s Celia Wade-Brown cast her vote at Carterton Memorial Hall, where a steady stream of voters had been filing through all day.
She said she’s “a fan of early voting”, on the basis that “you never know what might happen”, while seeing local candidates doing so may “remind some people” to do likewise.
Meanwhile, Act’s Simon Casey cast his vote at a polling station set up by the Masterton District Library, while National’s Mike Butterick went to one at Masterton’s War Memorial Stadium.
“It’s important that people vote, and early voting gives everyone more time and makes it easier to participate in the election,” Butterick said.
Casey reckoned it was good to “get it out of the way” given his hectic schedule for the next few weeks, before joking that “I don’t want to give myself the chance to change my mind!”
