Young farmers from across the east coast gathered in Masterton on Saturday to compete in an interclub sports tournament.
About 70 people gathered to show off their sporting finesse in a laid-back tournament that featured netball, volleyball and rippa rugby.
The Wairarapa home team were pipped at the post by the Dannevirke club who roared through the competition undefeated.
Third place was shared between the regional finalists group and the Puketoi club.
Young Farmers East Coast field officer Isabelle Hobbs said the Young Farmers group hosts a lot of leadership development opportunities throughout the year.
“So we wanted to kick the year off with something social.”
She said they are always keen for new members to join the Young Farmers clubs.
The event was followed by a post-match function at Lone Star where the group were encouraged to help the regional finalists prep for upcoming Young Farmer of the Year competition.
The regional finalist representing the east coast in the FMG Young Farmer of the Year will be decided in April.
