It was nothing unusual when Gordon Wilmshurst and Terry Waitere both hit home runs for Kuripuni Sports Bar Giants in their 5-1 win over Dodgers in a Hutt Valley President’s grade match played at Fraser Park on Saturday.
Wilmshurst and Waitere are power hitters who feature regularly on the home run list but what made their latest effort more noteworthy was that Dodgers had an ex-Black Sox pitcher Steve Leitch doing the business in that department.
As the score would indicate it was a close game between two teams who had won all of their previous games but Giants always had their noses in front after holding a 1-0 advantage at the end of the first innings.
There was notable success too at Fraser Park for the Giants under-15s who came through a double header unscathed to maintain their unbeaten record as well.
First up they outclassed Saints 19-1 and then followed a cliffhanger with a powerful Totara Park Gold combination which was also aiming to maintain a clean sheet.
Totara Park led 7-4 at one stage but Giants lifted the ante when it mattered most to take an 8-7 victory.
Amongst those to stand out were Taquin Karaitiana, Jaden Aporo-Celkin and Beauleah Karaitiana.
Both the Giants premier two men and major B women’s teams matches won their latest matches by default.
