The unbeaten Wairarapa College can expect a tough battle when they come up against the experienced Jo Kelly and Co Carterton Old Girls in tonight’s early game at the Trust House Wairarapa Netball Centre.
The students go into the game off the back of a narrow two-goal win over Ōpaki Vixens last weekend, whereas Carterton Old Girls suffered their first defeat, going down 53-46 to defending champions Celtic.
Coach Keely Riwa-Couch are likely to make some changes in the Waicol line-up with the possibility of gun shooter Maggie Shields being unavailable because of her preparation with the New Zealand under-18 softball team to head to Brazil for their World Cup qualifying series. They can also not afford to underestimate a Carterton Old Girls side chockful of talented, experienced players who are taking a more relaxed approach to their netball but still put a formidable team out on the court.
Gladstone Tauweru scored their first points of the championship, beating Jo Kelly and Co Carterton Maroon by six goals in a low-scoring game, but they can expect a much sterner challenge when they meet Celtic in today’s 7.30pm game.
In tomorrow’s 11am fixture, Carterton Maroon and Opaki Vixens will clash, with both teams looking for their first win of the season.
