Traffic along High St in Solway, Masterton, was interrupted on Friday when a car was rear-ended by a truck during the busy school pick-up period.

A white Mazda turning into Derby St had its boot crumpled and right rear wheel buckled when it was hit by the northbound truck just before 3.30pm.

The truck suffered minor damage to the right side of its front bumper.

Connor Denholm, a witness at the scene, was biking towards the main road when the crash unfolded.

“The car was stationary in the middle of the road, turning into [Derby] street when the truck hit it.

“Boom, the car did a whole 360-degree turn. I slammed the brakes on my bike and flew over my handlebars, then landed in a bush.”

Denholm said several people ran to help and fire engines, police and an ambulance were quick to the scene.

Police said they’d received reports of a crash on High St around 3.30pm, involving a truck and car.

Two people received moderate injuries and were transported to hospital.

A tow truck had taken the car away by 4.10pm.
