Police investigating an indecent assault on a Wairarapa train service last Monday have identified the person they were seeking in the case.
A boy travelling to Wairarapa from the Hutt Valley was indecently assaulted by a man at about 4.45pm when the train was between Lower Hutt and Woodside stations.
Police said the boy was not injured but was understandably shaken.
Wairarapa Police said they had now spoken to the man involved and were working with his family and that of the young victim.
“We have identified and spoken to the person who we were seeking in the case and that person’s family,” Detective Sergeant Mike Smith said.
“We are satisfied there is no ongoing risk to commuters on future train services, and we are working with the family of the boy involved in what would have been a frightening incident.
“Police would like to acknowledge the assistance of the concerned passengers who intervened and came forward to assist the investigation.”
