The Wairarapa Times-Age has been named as a finalist in the Newspaper of the Year [up to 30,000 circulation] category at this year’s Voyager Media Awards.
Editor Grant Harding said the entry was representative of high standards set by the Times-Age team.
“We are extremely proud of this achievement and everybody who has been involved with the papers’ production in the last 12 months.
“It’s not just an editorial award. It’s also the operations team, headed by Bevan Wills, and all departments who contribute.”
While it was a difficult time for media companies currently, staff were maintaining the same high standards while working remotely, he said.
Having worked in other newsrooms, Harding said the recognition was well deserved.
He said it was a credit to publisher Andrew Denholm for believing in the paper.
Denholm, who bought the paper from media giant NZME in June 2016, said he was thrilled with the news.
“When I bought the paper, someone told me it’s not about winning awards, but it is to a certain extent as it’s recognition we are doing a great job.”
fingers crossed for this year.
