Cause of incident being investigated

A passenger train derailed in Masterton on Sunday afternoon as it headed to the station to collect passengers.

The derailment included the locomotive and part of the passenger carriage but no passengers were on the train at the time.

Acting Chief Operations Officer at KiwiRail Henare Clarke said the cause of the derailment was not known at time of publication.

“KiwiRail apologises for the inconvenience.

“Re-railing the locomotive may take some time as it will need to be lifted by crane.

“It is hoped this can be completed [Monday] to allow services to resume.”

Sunday night’s services to and from Wellington were cancelled and replaced by buses.

  1. So who experienced this shock you refer to in the headline? Or is that just to grab reader attention?

I believe Trump refers to such media tactics as “fake news”!
