Two trucks crashed north of Mt Bruce on State Highway 2 early this morning.
Both lanes of road were closed for more than eight hours while the Serious Crash Unit investigated.
Senior Sergeant Mike Sutton said the 5.30am crash happened near Pukaha Wildlife Centre, south of Eketahuna.
“A truck and trailer unit carrying woodchips has collided with a smaller truck, a single cab flat-deck truck, that was travelling south on SH2.
The two drivers were the only occupants in the vehicles, with both receiving injuries.
One driver was flown by helicopter to Palmerston North Hospital with moderate to serious injuries.
The second driver was taken to Wairarapa Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.
“The truck and trailer unit has over turned and it’s on its side, resulting in quite a bit of woodchips spread across the road,” Mr Sutton said.
The road was closed between South Rd and Opaki Bridge, and diversions were in place.
The road was reopened just before 3pm.
