Repairs to the earthquake prone 1927 Featherston War Memorial have begun.
Wellington-based 1GEO Ltd is contracted to do the work, and the South Wairarapa District Council hopes it would be finished in time for Anzac Day 2021.
The work involves carrying out an engineering inspection and producing a report and, developing a design for the proposed repairs.
The strengthening work is needed for the columns, beams, stone inlays, and plaster work.
More than $224,000 from the Provincial Growth Fund grant would be spent on the renovation.
The memorial has a Heritage New Zealand category 1 rating.
