Fuel storage standards to be lifted

Mobil Faulknors Service Station on the corner of State Highway 2 and Te Ore Ore Rd Masterton will close temporarily from December, while Mobil Oil New Zealand Ltd [Mobil] completely rebuilds it.

“We are effectively building a brand new site on the existing Mobil Faulknors location,” Andrew McNaught, Mobil’s lead country manager, said.

A new convenience store will be built offering barista coffee, café-style seating, free wi-fi, and charging ports at tables.

On the forecourt will be eight fuel dispensers, up from six, which will pump Synergy Extra Diesel, Synergy Extra Unleaded, Synergy Supreme, and Synergy Supreme+ with pay-at-pump technology at every dispenser.

The pumps will be set further back to improve traffic flow at the service station entrance, and a new car wash will also be built.

Mobil is also constructing a new truck stop at the rear of the station and will introduce Mobil Diesel EfficientTM and Diesel Exhaust Fluid at all truck stop dispensers.

Mobil Diesel Efficient is an advanced commercial diesel fuel formulated to help improve power, increase engine responsiveness, and reduce emissions.

There will be work on the underground fuel tanks, improving their safety, integrity, and environmental stewardship standards.

While the existing fuel storage system meets all safety guidelines and regulations, the new storage system represents the highest standard available in New Zealand.

McNaught said he was excited to have Mobil Faulknors undergoing such significant works, and he was confident the changes would be well received by the community.

He did not disclose the cost of the upgrade but said since 2012, Mobil had spent more than $200 million across New Zealand operations.

“These works at Mobil Faulknors represent just some of our ongoing, significant investment in maintaining and improving our retail infrastructure, and we’re sure that our customers will be pleased with the end result.

“We apologise for any inconvenience the temporary closure of Mobil Faulknors will cause to our customers, and we thank you for your patience as we undertake these upgrades,” he said.

“However, we look forward to welcoming our valued customers back to Mobil Faulknors once it reopens.”

  1. As much as it will be an inconvenience to travel across town to the nearest Mobil, I am excited to see the change this station will bring.
