Masterton water babies may miss out on their afternoon swim for a couple of weeks as Masterton District Council closes lane pools in the Trust House Recreation Centre for casual swimming.
Options for competitive swimmers will remain, however, and the pools will reopen in time for the school holidays at the start of July.
Work has been under way upgrading the centre which has included putting in a new PVC liner in the outdoor lido pool to prevent water loss.
Work from June 17 to July 7 will have air-conditioning ducting in the ceiling secured, lights in the rear pool hall upgraded, and water damaged panels in the foyer ceiling repaired.
This work requires scaffolding, which means the pools will have to be emptied.
“We’ve been able to arrange for the work to be staged so that competitive swimmers can still train,” acting community facilities and activities manager Aaron Bacher said.
The pool has been fully booked for competitive swimmers training for the duration of the work.
