Two youths appeared at Masterton Youth Court on Thursday after a stabbing in Upper Plain on Wednesday afternoon.
The grievous assault happened on Skeets Rd between West Bush Rd and Totara Park Dr at about 4.30pm, when the youths tried to steal a quad bike from a property, a police spokesperson said.
“The youths were disturbed by the property owner, and an altercation took place.
“One person received moderate injuries.”
The youths were arrested on Wednesday night, after the area had been cordoned off.
They were charged jointly with aggravated burglary and wounding.
“This was a confronting situation for the property owner and his immediate reaction was to defend himself and his property,” the spokesperson said.
“We acknowledge this was a fast-paced situation and people will react differently in similar circumstances, however, police discourage members of the public from putting themselves in harm’s way.”
The Times-Age understands the injured person was a man in his late twenties, who was flown to Wellington Hospital by the Life Flight Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
A Capital and Coast District Health Board spokesperson said the patient was in a stable condition on a ward at Wellington Hospital on Thursday afternoon.
Police were still working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
