A new coffee bar will offer a bright, modern setting in which to sit and relax when the Waihinga Centre, Martinborough’s new community hub, opens next week.

The hub brings together the library, Plunket, toy library, i-SITE, and the refurbished town hall events venue all under the one roof.

It will also be the home of Knucklebone Coffee Bar, developed by business owner Dudley-Anne Hill and her team at Neighbourhood Coffee House in Martinborough.

“Knucklebone presents an opportunity to provide a fresh new cafe experience that our visitors will enjoy, and a destination that the South Wairarapa community can be proud of,” Hill said.

The Waihinga Centre will be utilised by the community, as well as out-of-towners visiting the i-SITE and attending events at the historic town hall.

Hill said Knucklebone Coffee Bar aimed to introduce something new to the cafe scene, with their Cascara tea made with dried coffee cherry fruit, cold press juices, and their new nitro cold brew coffee in early 2019.

With the addition of the new kids’ playground coming soon, as Stage 2 of the development, the cafe would be family friendly, Hill said.

“The team at Knucklebone has a unique market to take care of and that’s our local mums, dads and kids, and we plan to take good care of them with some exciting ideas, including developing kids’ birthday parties in the new year.”

South Wairarapa District Council chief executive Paul Crimp said the council was impressed with the uniqueness of the Knucklebone offering.

“We are delighted to award the cafe lease to an existing Martinborough business owner.”

The Waihinga Centre is situated just off the Martinborough Memorial Square, on the corner of Texas and Cork streets.

It will be officially opened on Monday, December 10, at 11am.
