She was appointed by a unanimous decision from the Makoura board of trustees,
Before this, Marion worked as a school relationship manager with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority [NZQA], and for twelve years as deputy principal at Otorohanga College in Waikato.
The board of trustees at Makoura said that Harvey “brings a strong background in supporting shifts in student achievement, alongside a proven track record in supporting teacher shifts in pedagogy”.
The board of trustees chairwoman, Mereana Lopa, commented that there had been “excellent interest in the leadership position”.
Having worked at Makoura College for six months, Harvey said this period confirmed to her that this was the place she was meant to be.
“I have always worked in smaller schools, where the feeling of community is paramount.
“I believe in the importance of each individual student and I have high expectations of staff and students.
“My commitment is that by working together students will achieve their potential.”
