Greytown’s White Swan Hotel is under new management.

Experience Collective, a Gladstone-based company led by husband and wife team Rosie and Nick Rogers, completed a deal for the Main St mainstay last week.

The Rogers have managed the Tui Brewery Experience at Mangatainoka for the past three years and are also in charge of the West Coast’s Monteith’s Brewery tour.

The financial details of the deal have not been made public, but Rosie Rogers said the hotel ticked all the boxes for the couple’s next project.

“The White Swan was pretty close to the top of the list, if not the top of the list for us in terms of Wairarapa,” she said.

“We were pretty clear on what we wanted, and what the criteria were.

“The criteria were around tourism, being a good fit with our current businesses, iconic, well known, attractions that are tourism linked.

“We wanted something close to home, in Wairarapa, and we wanted something we could add value to, and grow, and use our skillset to improve.”

Rogers said the team felt “a level of responsibility and privilege” to uphold the hotel’s worldwide reputation.

“It’s a bit of an honour, to be honest, to be the custodians of such a well-known brand and location, that, I think, every Wairarapa person wants to be able to be proud of, and have as a reference point for their region.

“[There’s] certainly a level of personal responsibility to do that justice.

“We want the White Swan to fulfil its potential.”

Rogers said the couple were spending the summer getting to know the business and then would implement changes over winter.

“To have something here in Wairarapa – and we want to help to drive tourism here and be part of the industry – is really exciting for us and something we really enjoy.”
