Three ageing fridges will find a new life in the New Year as part of the Masterton Foodbank’s community pantries programme.
The project has been a labour of love among community groups, the Masterton Foodbank, Henley Men’s Shed and King St Artworks.
The Men’s Shed helped with upgrading the fridges which were donated by Honest Johns Secondhand Appliance Trader.
Artists at King St Artworks helped revamp the exterior of the fridges, painting them in bright colours and patterns. Each panel features a different mural painted by a resident artist.
Masterton Foodbank manager Lyn Tankersley said the fridges would work like community pantries, with their electrical equipment replaced with free-flowing vents.
“Those two organisations have been great in the process so far.”
The fridges will go into storage until they can be placed in their permanent homes in January.
