Masterton teenager Paikea Rogers made his mark at the Blue Light Life Skills Camp.

The 14-year-old was awarded the prize of Overall Merit at the week-long residential course held at the Trentham Defence Force base in Wellington this month.

Blue Light Life Skills co-ordinator Abbe-Mae said that Rogers beat a strong group of young people from the North Island to take the prize.

“Paikea was presented the Overall Merit award as he was the most improved student on the course.

“He showed consistent improvement in attitude, self-discipline, self-confidence, participation, and teamwork.”

The Blue Light programme is run in partnership with the New Zealand Defence Force and New Zealand Police and creates adventure-based experiential learning for 14- to 17-year-olds.
