Ten O’Clock Cookie Bakery Café’s John Kloeg has taken the gourmet fruit gold award at the 23rd Bakels NZ Supreme Pie Awards on Tuesday night.
Kloeg’s blackforest pie headed off Aucklander Oudorm Lai’s blueberry, apple and peach, and Rotorua’s Patrick Rattigan’s fresh lemon meringue which took out silver and bronze respectively.
The pie awards were announced in Auckland at a jungle themed gala on Tuesday night.
Last Thursday, the judges, including celebrity chef judge Gareth Stewart, began the task of finding a winner befitting a gold, silver or bronze award in the 11 finalist categories.
The judges spent nine hours sorting through 5326 pies entered by 553 bakers.
Patrick Lam of Tauranga’s Patrick’s Pies Gold Star Bakery took out the supreme award with a mince and cheese pie, the seventh time he has taken out the supreme award.
