Home buyers with cash to splash are more than willing to invest in million-dollar Wairarapa property, latest property figures show.
In the past six months, nine Wairarapa properties sold for more than $1 million – seven in South Wairarapa, one in Carterton and one in Masterton, according to the latest REINZ Million Dollar Price Report.
Jaime Slater of Harcourts Greytown, who sold the Masterton house, said buyers were “happy to pay a premium” for many high-end Wairarapa properties.
By the same time last year, seven million-dollar sales had been recorded, all in South Wairarapa.
The Wairarapa properties surpassing the million-dollar mark all had an “x-factor”, Slater said.
She said there were houses for everyone in the region ranging from beautiful rural homesteads to well-designed homes drawn by architects.
Greytown was easily the busiest town for million-dollar homes and she had sold a residential property there for $1.8m last month.
Kuratawhiti St and Wood St were lined with properties of historic significance to Greytown, she said.
Most of the million-dollar sales had multiple buyers putting in offers.
Offers were coming from people with young families, middle-aged couples wanting a different lifestyle or retired famers looking to downsize, she said.
The million-dollar home sold in Masterton earlier this year was a 1.1ha property at 43 Jordan Terrace in Lansdowne.
“It was one of the most beautiful houses I’ve sold. The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home was architecturally designed with beautiful grounds,” she said.
“You don’t even know it is there until you drive up the driveway and it just opens up on you – it blows your mind.”
The home, which sold for just under $1.05m, had multiple offers.
Nationally, 5438 properties sold for over $1m during the first six months of this year.
