Featherston Golf Club is for sale, with agents Property Brokers suggesting it could either stay as a golf course, or become a farm or a lifestyle block.

The course covers 32.82 hectares a few kilometres from Featherston and includes the clubhouse.

Collectively, it has a government valuation of $1.02 million, but Property Brokers is not providing price guidance publicly.

The property is being sold by tender closing September 27 at 4pm.

The agents say they are “passionate about saving the course and would be doing their best to sell the property as a golf course to retain the local history, but there were other options”.

Rural sales consultant Stephen Penn, said it was a fertile, well-contoured block, and could be used for dairy grazing, cattle or lamb finishing, cropping or even as a larger lifestyle block.

The club decided to sell the course because membership has fallen to a level where running it is no longer financially viable.

The club was established on Gum Grove farm in 1902 and moved to its present location off Viles Road in the 1970s in a deal organised by Guy Brandon.

The course on Soldiers Settlement Rd still bears his name – Brandon Park.

The club had explored multiple options to keep going over the past year, including subdividing the land into lifestyle sections, but due to district and regional councils opposing consents, this plan did
not go ahead.

“It would be a shame for not only Featherston as a community, but to all past and present members to lose the course,” sales consultant Erin Nesdale said.
