Thanks to donors, juniors needing to spend time in hospital will soon have some fun new distractions.

Wairarapa Hospital children’s ward has been given a new range of toys for young patients to play with while they are inpatients.

The donation was a joint gift from Holdsworth Lions Club and The Warehouse Masterton.

The Lions Club made an initial donation of a voucher for the hospital’s paediatrics department to buy toys, and The Warehouse topped it up, meaning more toys could be bought.

Charge nurse manager paediatrics Tess Geard said they enjoyed choosing the new playthings for the toy box in the children’s ward.

“It was a great opportunity to pick toys that will be fun and suitable for our patients. It was particularly good to be able to select toys for children across the different age ranges that we have in the hospital, so we have something for everyone during their stay.”

Geard said the toys would provide comfort and entertainment for patients in the ward.

“Staying in hospital can be a daunting and scary time for children. Having toys available helps make their stay more enjoyable and provides a welcome distraction while receiving treatment.

“We’re hugely grateful to the Holdsworth Lions Club and The Warehouse Masterton for supporting our patients and helping to make their hospital experience as positive as possible.”
