Many children go to holiday programmes during the summer holidays, but two college pupils decided to run one of their own.
Wairarapa College pupilt Jackson Burling and Kuranui College pupil AJ Southey spent last week hosting a summer drama programme as a fundraiser for their trip to England.
The duo will join 22 other pupils from around New Zealand who have been picked to go to England as part of the National Shakespeare Schools Programme later this year.
Despite being the holidays, the duo taught 17 primary school pupils.
The pupils learned a range of performance techniques, circus skills, and song writing.
The programme ended on Friday with a public performance of Jack and Jill and the Beanstalk in the Kuranui College auditorium, directed by Kuranui College teacher Juanita McLellan.
While in England, Burling and Southey will learn about movement, voice, history and Shakespeare’s plays, along with making a three-day visit to the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-Upon-Avon.
The whole trip culminates with a performance on London’s Globe stage.
The pupils need around $9500 each for their trip and are expected to do further fundraising.
