Welder suffers head injury at work

A Masterton man was flown to Wellington Hospital in a critical condition after a workplace incident at AGTEC Machinery in Solway on Tuesday morning.
Aiden Sayer, 20, works as a welder at the Ngaumutawa Rd business and has been there for several months.
It specialises in manufacturing, selling, and distributing farm machinery and parts.
His stepdad, Craig Ireland, said the incident happened after a tray became unstable and fell.
“It knocked him into some shelving, and it bashed him in the head quite severely.”
Ireland did not know who had been around at the time of the accident, but they quickly called the ambulance and family to the site.
The accident had left everyone on site shaken up, Ireland said.
“Everybody is in a state of shock.”
Wellington Free Ambulance paramedics were called to the scene shortly after 9am and worked to treat Sayer.
He was airlifted to Wellington Hospital in the Life Flight Westpac Rescue helicopter in a critical condition shortly after 10.30am.
As of 6.30pm on Tuesday, Sayer was in a serious condition in the intensive care unit at Wellington Hospital.
A worker from a nearby business, who did not wish to be named, said he had heard a loud bang earlier that morning but only realised something serious had happened when emergency services arrived with their sirens on.
“But you don’t really take any notice of [bangs] around here.”
He saw several people come running out of the garage and throw off their overalls and clear the front space for the helicopter to land.
