A crafty Featherston pensioner has brought a touch of The Shire to Christmas this year.
Colin Robinson has created a hobbit hole for his great-grandchildren.
Robinson’s mini home resides in the South Wairarapa town – just a few seconds as the eagle flies from Lord Of The Rings landmarks such as Fernside and the Putangirua Pinnacles.
But the little house is set for an epic journey over the misty mountains to Kapiti Coast, where has great-grandchildren live.
Similar huts retail for well over $1000, but the labour of love will have huge sentimental value.
Its doorway can easily accommodate those 3ft 6in and under. Wizards would have trouble entering, while it is probably a no-go zone for dragons and orcs.
It is all his own creation and took about two weeks to assemble.
“It’s how hobbits work,” he said. “Nothing too technical.”
Robinson also has his latest project car on the go.
An Austin 7 with MG parts is being prepared for car shows later in the summer.
