It is every parent’s worst nightmare when parking a car.
A mother is believed to have accidentally run over her toddler in a rural Carterton driveway on Thursday morning.
Emergency services attended the Kokotau Rd incident just after 11am on Thursday, and the young boy was flown to Wellington Hospital.
Two women at the property said the mother of the boy had gone to move her car when the incident happened.
“So, it wasn’t at speed,” one of the women said.
No one else was outside at the time.
Carterton firefighters cleared an area for the Westpac Life Flight rescue helicopter to land and helped Wellington Free Ambulance treat the boy.
Life Flight flew the toddler and his mother to Wellington Hospital where they were discharged the same day.
Police Constable Matthew Waugh said he was unsure how injured the boy was but said his lower limbs were hurt.
He could not release further information about what happened or the boy’s age yet as an investigation was under way.
