TV personality Ruud Kleinpaste, aka The Bug Man, is heading to Wairarapa this month for a one-off bug hunt around Pukaha Mount Bruce forest.
Kleinpaste is best known for his television and radio shows, including Newstalk ZB’s ‘Ruud’s Awakening’ that was a popular radio talk-back show for more than 27 years.
His TV highlights include ‘What Now?’, the Discovery Channel series ‘Buggin’ with Ruud’, as well as a guest appearance on the ‘Tonight Show’ with Jay Leno.
The avid conservationist has agreed to get involved in Pukaha’s annual fundraising dinner this year as emcee on Friday April 20, followed by a kid’s bug hunt the following day.
Mr Kleinpaste will be on hand to help identify the bugs and make sure all the participants get plenty of bug knowledge.
Participants will also receive a “Buggin with Ruud” official bug hunter pack containing a signed certificate declaring each child an official bug hunter.
Pukaha’s general manager Emily Court said she was excited about the visit.
“Rudd’s passion for the environment is infectious, this is an amazing opportunity for our kids to meet him and be inspired about nature.
Community engagement is vital for the success of Pukaha’s conservation programme and we are so happy to be able to offer this incredible experience to our young people.”
Tickets cost $10 per child (up to 15 years) and all proceeds will go directly to conservation efforts at Pukaha.
