It might seem an unusual friendship, but 101-year-old Lill Jones and 1-year-old Hayvin Kumar celebrated their birthdays together at Carter’s Court on Wednesday morning.
Hayvin’s mum Hayley is a nurse at the home where Lill lives and he was born on her 100th birthday.
Last year Lill received a letter from Queen Elizabeth II congratulating her on the milestone. “You don’t get it more than once though,” she said.
Her letters this year had come from family and Wairarapa MP Alastair Scott. The secret to living to 101 – walking. “It keeps you young,” she said.
Lill said she wouldn’t be having a big party to celebrate but enjoyed sharing the day with Hayvin.
The Kumar’s third child and only boy, his parents said Hayvin would likely grow up to become a mechanic like his dad.
“He loves wheels, loves the quadbike and the tractor.”
