Masterton Primary School is among many schools in New Zealand receiving bomb threats.
Prevention manager Senior Sergeant Gordon Crawley said Wairarapa police “believe very much that it was just a hoax”.
Police attended the South Rd school in Kuripuni just after 11.30am.
“We checked the school to make sure there wasn’t anything there untoward.”
After checking the premises the police declared the school as safe.
Pupils are now back in class.
Mr Crawley said the police were still investigating where the call had come from.
This is the only known Wairarapa school to receive a bomb threat.
It has been confirmed that schools in Auckland, Hamilton and Tauranga have also received calls of a “concerning nature”.
Police said a threatening pre-recorded message had been phoned in to a number of New Zealand schools.
“We understand the fear and concern that these calls cause, however we reiterate that so far we have not established any actual threat.”
Parents of Masterton Primary School pupils were alerted to the issue on Facebook.
