The Masterton Arts quarter’s Block Party is back.
With more than 2500 people at last year’s party, organisers are hoping it will be bigger and better this Saturday.
Dozens of free events will run all around the Arts Quarter, Library Square and Queen Elizabeth [QE] Park.
Events will include poetry workshops, guided tree tour and art in QE Park, food, poetry, printmaking and photography, and much more.
The theme for this year’s party is “Keep It Green”.
“It’s going to be quite a party,” coordinator Madeleine Slavick said.
“It will really be a crazy fun day.”
Many favourite activities are back from last year’s party, including the manhole cover paintings near the library.
A new addition to the event line-up is a photo swap outside of King St Artworks.
People can bring any kind of photo that they have taken and swap with another.
Masterton Trust Lands Trust Education Centre on Dixon St will be screening the film Conservation in the Wairarapa, produced by Masterton students Edward Rice and Carys Gibbs.
The film Fools and Dreamers by Happen films will also be screened.
There will be plenty of food on offer as well as live entertainment such as DJs, singer-songwriters, and poetry performances.
“There is quite a choice of what kind of fun people want to have on the day,” Slavick said.
“It is quite a unique neighbourhood to have four arts groups in one small area.
“It’s just a celebration of what is here and to celebrate who we are.”
Block Party events will run this Saturday from 10am till 2pm.
While most events are walk-in, there are a few of the activities with a limited number of placements.
