The Wairarapa Cancer Society are loving new park benches donated from the New Zealand Certified Builders Apprentice Challenge in April.
At the competition participants were given a building plan, materials and eight hours to each construct a park bench.
The winner of the regional competition, Regan Morris, represented Wairarapa at the national competition where he earned third place.
NZCB CEO, Grant Florence, said, “donating the park benches that were crafted in the Apprentice Challenge is a way for our NZCB members to give something back and acknowledge our appreciation.
“All of the regional NZCB districts are proud to be active members of the community, not only through the many building jobs our members carry out for families and businesses, but also through the community events and charity initiatives we are involved with.”
Cancer societies and other community groups across New Zealand benefited from the regional competitions, with 93 seats donated.
Wairarapa Cancer Society centre manager Jacinta Buchanan said the society was “really grateful for them picking us as the charity to donate too”.
One of the park benches will be raffled off later in the year and two will be kept and placed in the Hope Garden in Masterton for people to enjoy.
NZCB regional president Paul Bashford said the timber was treated so would be “all good for the weather”.
Sandra Loveday from the Cancer Society loved the quality of the park benches, commenting “they are amazing seats”.
