Cuisine Magazine recently selected two Masterton restaurants – Saint Sebastian Restaurant and The Screening Room – to feature in its 2023-2024 Good Food Guide.
Saint Sebastian Restaurant owner Caleb Kloeg told the Times-Age that making Cuisine’s has been an ambition since opening the business.
Kloeg said he’s “super stoked and humbled to make it among some of New Zealand’s and this region’s greats”.
Kloeg comes from a dynasty of award-winning eateries – his family owns 10 O’Clock Cookie Bakery, while his brother Michael Kloeg is Clareville Bakery’s proprietor.
“At Seb’s, we empower our team, giving them the freedom to create and explore the possibilities of food, tasty drops, events, and experiences.
“Here’s to making the top 50,” Kloeg said.
Meanwhile, Screening Room owner Eve Buchanan is no stranger to being featured in Cuisine Magazine.
Buchanan’s previous restaurant, Salute in Greytown, was chosen as a finalist in the inaugural Cuisine Restaurant of the Year awards in 2005.
“Firstly, I’d like to say how thrilled I am for Wairarapa to have such an impressive number of recognised restaurants in our region. We are punching well beyond our weight, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of such a strong hospitality region,” she said, regarding the 10 Wairarapa restaurants that have made the cut.
“It really shows how the fabric of New Zealand culture has changed, highlighting the passion for great food, stunning wines, and professional service. I am so proud to be a Wairarapian and be recognised amongst these other fabulous establishments,” Buchanan said.
The Screening Room also offers the ability to eat and drink while watching a movie in their cinema, which Buchanan believes offers her customers a unique experience.
