A big splash for White Ribbon Day

Families were encouraged to get down to Masterton’s Trust House Recreation Centre on Saturday and jump in the water as part of an event organised to mark White Ribbon Day.

The event was hosted by Changeability, Wairarapa’s family violence network and had the support of many local businesses wanting to support the message of preventing violence towards women.

Changeability coordinator Mike Thomson said he wanted to get the message out to young boys and men about supporting the special women in their lives.

“We’re all about embracing healthy masculinity and safe relationships,” Thomson said.

“We’re not about shaming, if you’re struggling, it’s about how we can help and support.”

Thomson said the idea of having the ribbon event at the pools was so families could go out together, with fun activities and prizes up for grabs.
