Wairarapa’s weekend offerings

Sunflower power

Sunflower lovers are in luck this weekend with a ‘Pick your own’ day in Clareville tomorrow from 11am to 12pm. The event costs $2 per stem with proceeds donated to local charity Hōkai Tahi, which helps support women and their whānau through pregnancy or baby loss. Visitors are asked to park on the road next to 17 Hughes Line and hop over the small white gate, not drive up the driveway. Closed-in shoes are recommended, and it would be best to bring your own secateurs if possible.

17 Hughes Line, Clareville. 11am to 12pm tomorrow.

Sustainable Saturdays

Saturday morning’s Crop Up pop-up market is back. Greytown’s newest sustainable market brings a blend of small farm suppliers, growers, and locals offering their produce. The Bicycle Kitchen will be serving up kai and guests are asked to bring their own bags and reusable cups.

Greytown Crop Up, 102 Main St, Greytown. Saturday from 9am.

Dragstalgia –
Wild Bunch Wars

Gearheads will be able to get their fix this weekend over at the Masterton Motorplex International Dragstrip. The ‘Dragstalgia’ event will have a variety of classes competing, plus 30 “wild bunch” cars. The motors will be revving to go as racing starts at 10am on Saturday and 9am Sunday. Kids 14 and under are free, and there will be on-site food and coffee available. The gate charge is $25 for those aged 15 and up, but there will also be free access to the pits.

Dragstalgia, Masterton Motorplex, Manaia Rd. Racing starts 10am on Saturday and 9am on Sunday.

Riversdale Beach
New Year Fete

The Riversdale Beach Community Association is running its annual New Year Fete [formerly known as the Riversdale Beach New Year Market]. The fete will be on Sunday, January 7, from 9am to 1pm, and is a fundraiser event, with fees from the stalls donated to the Riversdale Beach Life Saving Club.

Riversdale Beach. Sunday 9am to 1pm.

Shaun Preston @ Colombo

Singing sensation Shaun Preston is returning to Wairarapa this weekend with a Sunday performance at Colombo Martinborough. He’ll be arriving with his baby grand piano in tow and starting the show at 2pm. Colombo will be open to the public from 11.30am with pizzas and platters available all day. There will also be a selection of Colombo wines, and local and international beers, along with a range of non-alcoholic options available. This is a non-booking outdoor event with plenty of outdoor seating provided on a first come, first served basis – guests are welcome to bring along camping chairs and picnic blankets.

Shaun Preston at Colombo, 107 Todds Rd, Martinborough. Doors at 11.30am, music at 2pm until 5pm. Sunday January 7.
