Fingers crossed for fine weekend

Balloon festival

This weekend, assuming the weather cooperates, the region’s skies will be full with a squadron of hot air balloons for the annual 2024 Wairarapa Balloon Festival. The event is scheduled to feature about 65 balloonists from all over New Zealand along with 13 balloons. Lift-off today is due to be at 6.30am from Carterton, while on Sunday it’s at the same time in Masterton, and on Monday it’s planned for balloons to ascend from a number of locations in both towns. For more information – including weather related updates, see www.nzballoons.co.nz and the Wairarapa Balloon Festival 2024 Facebook page.

Today through Monday [weather permitting], 6am – 8am, Clareville Showgrounds, Chester Rd. Entry is free, and the event is suitable for all ages.

A delightful day on
the green

The Greytown Bowling club in association with Hendrick’s Gin is welcoming anyone and everyone to enjoy a delightful day on the green. You can watch or participate in a “sprightly bowling showdown” while grasping a Hendricks Gin and Tonic in hand. There will also be an array of “delectable treats” perfectly matched to the festivities.

Today, 10am – 2.30pm, Greytown Bowling Club, 55 East St Greytown. Tickets are $32.75 each or $104.50 for a team of four.

Easter market in Greytown

Another Easter market option is provided by the Stallkeeprs Greytown Market, which is running today and tomorrow. The boutique market is showcasing a collection of makers selling their high quality and handmade goods, and provides the opportunity to meet and have a yarn with a range of creators and artists.

Today and tomorrow, 9.30am – 4pm, 89 Main St Greytown. Entry is free and open to all ages.

Easter Market in Martinborough

But wait, there’s more! Yet another Easter market option is on offer in Martinborough over a three day period. It features a wide range of stalls and goods, including the vintage tea rooms where “every cup tells a story”. Also available is “an egg-citing Easter egg hunt” to keep younger attendees occupied and entertained.

Today and tomorrow, 10am – 3pm, and Monday 9am – 1pm, Martinborough Town Hall, 8 Texas St, Martinborough. Entry is free and is open to all ages.

Farmers Easter market

Today Masterton is playing host to a “crafty Easter market,” a day of fun to celebrate the long Easter weekend. There is an Easter hunt to keep you – and more particularly, any youngsters – occupied, with prizes in the offing. The day also includes live music, tasty food, and a selection of stall holders for you to browse at your heart’s content.

Today, 9am – 1pm, Solway Showgrounds, Judds Rd, Masterton. Entry is free, the event is suitable for all ages, and pets are welcome as well.
