Courtney Ewington, nee Norman, said being crowned Wairarapa Bride of the Year at Saturday’s 53rd annual awards “was an absolute honour.”
Ewington and her husband married last November at Burnside Church in Pirinoa.
She said she had been told that entering the competition would be the one chance to wear her dress again.
“I had a lot of nervous excitement!” she said.
Ewington said it was a lot of fun getting her hair and makeup done, wearing her dress again, getting to know the other brides, and hearing their stories.
For the competition, she walked out to Dave Dobbyn’s Slice of Heaven, a song that played at her wedding ceremony.
“I wanted something with a bit of life to it and which represented the atmosphere of the day.”
Ewington designed her dress and had it custom-made at Solobridal; it was a sleek dress with a detachable overskirt.
“This gave two different looks on our wedding day and allowed the big dress for the ceremony and a more practical dress for the reception,” she said.
What a comely lot.
