See if you can spot Santa, Rudolf or Blitzen at the dozens of displays lighting up Wairarapa this weekend.
Queen Elizabeth Park in Masterton will be illuminated with colourful lights from 8pm-midnight every night until January 13.
Families can also take a tour of the light displays around the streets of Masterton, from Leeds Pl, to East Taratahi Rd.
In Carterton, strings of lights can be found at the Redwood Estate, along Carrington Dr, Wakelin St and beyond.
In South Wairarapa, multiple houses are lit up among Greytown’s Main and East streets, and Ludlam St and Tudor House in Featherston.
Saturday in the Park
Food trucks will park up at Queen Elizabeth Park today. There will be sweet and savoury crepes, coffee, cold drinks, and snacks.
Enjoy a snack or two after a game of mini putt or zooming at the skatepark.

Christmas Dinner
The annual community lunch is happening again tomorrow.
The dinner at Carterton Event Centre is free but will accept koha to go towards the costs.

Wairarapa Space Centre
The first of its kind in New Zealand is the chance to dive deeply into space and the stars.
Wairarapa Space Science Centre opened this week, hosted by Hari and Sam of Star Safari. The space centre is an interactive experience to learn about what lies outside of Earth’s realm and how humans interact with those vast expanses.
See and experience the International Space Station with interactive virtual reality headsets.
Learn about Mars, and drive a model of a Mars rover designed by the European Space Agency and due for launch to the red planet in 2028.
Open 10am-4pm daily until January 29 [excluding Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day], corner of High St South and Holloway St in Carterton.
Surfing lessons
With warm water temperatures expected out at the coast it’s the perfect time to get amongst the Castlepoint surfing lessons that begin on Boxing Day,
The programme is for all ages, friends, and family. The group lessons are a mixed class of adults and children.
The lessons will have expert surf instruction from qualified instructors, who will talk about the importance of beach safety for surfing and swimming at Castlepoint.
Surfboards and wetsuits will be provided.
Monday 26 until Thursday, December 29. Two sessions a day at 10.30am and 1.30pm.
