Firefighters lend a hand

The damage from Cyclone Gabrielle has left a massive cleanup job for Tinui. Firefighters from Greytown, Featherston, Carterton, Masterton, Lake Ferry, and Tinui joined the defence force and several other organisations to help with the massive operation. The brigades helped clean up Tinui School, which suffered extensive damage in the flood. The Greytown contingent was tasked with cleaning the silt off the school tennis courts and play areas and emptying and cleaning the school pool, allowing the kids to have a clean area to play in. Crews assisted with cleaning out the classrooms, decks, and walkways and salvaging what they could. PHOTO/SUPPLIED
