Two Douglas Park primary school students have taken out first place in the 2023 Interface Minecraft competition “Build a Big Blue Future”.
Participants were tasked with designing a new exhibition for the National Aquarium of New Zealand [NANZ], whether it was an enclosure for penguins or a refuge for an endangered species.
Some incredible prizes for first-place winners included a pack of NANZ merchandise, a virtual penguin encounter, a discussion session with a Marine Stewardship Council expert, and a training session with a professional game developer.
This year’s competition saw some amazing entries from a record number of participants across all categories. First place in the Primary Category [Years 1–6] was taken out by nine-year-old Cairo Karaitiana and 10-year-old Angus McPhail from Douglas Park, while Tysen Southey, Arth Patel, Quinn Hewitt, and Conrad Sale from Rathkeale College won the Secondary Category [Year 9+].
