We used to receive the Midweek and Carterton Crier until we got a new postie. When I enquired why we weren’t (as I had left him a note saying we wanted these two items), it appears if you have a ‘no advertising material’ sticker (or something similar) on your letterbox, you can’t receive these free community papers. This was confirmed in my contact with NZ Post – it is their ‘policy’. So it appears if you want the two free papers, you have to receive copious quantities of shiny paper encouraging you to buy lots of stuff you don’t need, that required lots of resources and ends up in the rubbish to add to the already huge amount of pollution in our environment. But if you want a free paper that encourages community you are out of luck.
