A police search and rescue team resumed its search for missing man Michael Namana in the Waiohine Gorge area on Wednesday morning.
Namana [also known as Michael MacGregor] was last seen at Mt Holdsworth Rocky Lookout on July 31.
Active searching for Namana was initially paused on August 9, and it’s now three weeks since the first cadaver dog search was undertaken on August 24, during which the team was not able to cover all of the intended search areas due to bad weather and rough terrain.
Constable Selena Blaney, who is in charge of coordinating the searches, said yesterday that the team intended to spend two days – Wednesday and yesterday – in the Waiohine Gorge area.
“Circumstances prevented the deployment of dogs on Wednesday”, a spokesperson for police said, but did not elaborate on what these were.
“Plans are currently being finalised to deploy victim recovery dogs if the current search does not locate Mikey,” Blaney said.
