Sweet shock just the ticket for choc lover

What was meant to be a quiet night in watching Netflix for Taupō resident Richard Balm took a more celebratory turn when he found a Golden Ticket in one of his Schoc Chocolate bars – the second of three tickets that Greytown-based Schoc Chocolates has secreted in its produce as part of its 20th birthday celebrations.

Balm said it wasn’t until he started cracking into the second of three blocks of chocolate he’d received the previous day from Martinborough based friends that he discovered the winning ticket – securing himself $1000 worth of Schoc Chocolate.

“I noticed that the voucher inside was a different colour. I thought ‘Hang on a minute’, then compared the two tickets, and that’s when I realised we’d hit the jackpot,” Balm said.

As previously reported by the Times-Age, the first ticket from the Golden Ticket promotion – obviously inspired by Roald Dahl’s fictional character Willy Wonka – was discovered in July.

Schoc owner and chocolatier Murray Langham said he was thrilled to get a call from Balm, as he was wondering when the next ticket would pop up.

“It’s fantastic bringing joy to fellow chocolate lovers, and with Richard indulging in the first bar, and going back for seconds the following night, he’s certainly a worthy winner,” Langham said.

“The search is now on for the third and final Golden Ticket, and as we head towards the busy festive season, someone may well find an extra special surprise under the tree this year.”

The celebratory promotion expires on June 1, 2024.
