Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle tracked on CCTV footage in relation to a hit-and-run incident in Greytown two weeks ago.

The incident occurred on SH2 between North St and Ahikouka Rd.

Pedestrian William Newton was struck by an unknown car between 6.30am and 7am on Sunday 24 June, leaving him with serious injuries.

CCTV footage from Greytown prior to the incident has tracked a 2016-2020 Mitsubishi Triton utility, fitted with a flat deck and front bullbar with side protection.

Police believe the driver of this vehicle may have information that will assist their investigation.

Police request that the driver of the vehicle come forward, and that anyone else who knows the driver or owner of the vehicle to get in touch.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Masterton Police as soon as possible.

Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

Police said the victim, Newton, was walking next to the road in the northbound lane when he was struck by a vehicle and left at the scene.

He has since undergone surgery at Wellington Hospital.

Newton’s teammates at Greytown Football Club have described him as “the life and soul of the club” and said last week he is fighting his way back from serious injuries.

A Givealittle fundraising page to support Newton’s recovery has raised nearly $10,000 from 149 donors.
