Cars crash on wet roads

It was a busy 24 hours for emergency services, with multiple crashes on Tuesday’s wet roads, one of which left a person suffering serious injuries.

Carterton and Greytown fire brigades responded to a two-car crash at Carters Line and Park Rd intersection near Parkvale in Carterton at 5pm.

The crash closed Carters Line between Somerset and Park roads for at least an hour, with diversions in place, while emergency services were on the scene.

Fenz confirmed nobody was trapped, and extrication tools were not required.

Airbags had been deployed in at least one of the vehicles, which had a crushed frontage, while the second vehicle appeared to have suffered damage to the driver’s side.

Wellington Free Ambulance confirmed one person was taken to Wairarapa Hospital in a serious condition.

Carterton Fire Brigade thanked the members of the public who were assisting at the scene of the accident when they arrived “and continued to do so until we had the resources on scene to make things safe”.
