A suspicious house fire on Kiriwhakapapa Rd in Masterton is now being investigated by police after a Fire and Emergency [Fenz] specialist investigations team concluded their examination of the scene and filed their report yesterday.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the fire has been coded as “arson”, an investigation is underway, and the fire will continue to be treated as “suspicious”.
Fenz and police attended the site at about 11am on Saturday morning to find the structure burnt down in a blaze that had occurred overnight.
The fire investigators’ initial finding deemed the fire suspicious, and they then “investigated for cause determination”, a Fenz spokesperson said.
Now that Fenz has completed its onsite investigations, the matter has been handed over to the police to pursue.
A police spokesperson could not disclose the suspected cause of the fire or the findings.
“It wouldn’t be helpful to speculate,” Fenz said.
The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
