Redundancies at Premiere Beehive

Redundancies at Premier Beehive in Carterton have been confirmed by a spokesperson for E Tū union.

“We are aware of redundancies at Premier Beehive and are working through the process with our affected members,” E Tū team leader Rochelle Hill said in a statement.

Last week, the Times-Age approached Premiere Beehive with the following questions:

    How many redundancies have there been [versus total staff headcount]?

    What roles have been affected?

    Why did the company decide this course of action was necessary?

No comment had been received from Premier Beehive at the time this edition went to press.

According to the company’s website, Premiere Beehive employs a team of 300.

In its financial report for the year ended December 31, 2023, Premier Beehive showed an increase in revenue of 2.2 per cent to $128,934,594 in 2023 compared to $126,040.116 in 2022.

However, the cost of raw materials increased by 20 per cent, from $79,712,444 in 2022 to just over $96 million in 2023, and staff costs increased by nearly 15 per cent, from $19,939,324 in 2022 to $23,075,503 last year.

The increase in costs contributed to a before tax loss of $6,663,430 in 2023 – a sharp downturn from its $9 million profit in 2022.
